LaMelo Ball is off to a blistering start. Though Charlotte’s youth is showing in their overall record, the Chino Hills product is encroaching on a 30 PPG average, threatening to restore the Hornets to their ’90s ubiquity one fadeaway three at a time. In kind, his PUMA MB.04 is tooling up in the franchise’s most enduring color combination.
Adapting the iconic team blend that once dominated Starter jackets and oversized jerseys, the PUMA MB.04 relies on its typical front/back split to accomplish it. The tendril-like TPU shell towards the forefoot takes on dark purple, leaving the more traditional mesh and rubber composition at the heel in teal.
True to our title, Charlotte’s Hugo the Hornet mascot also appears at the very back of these LaMelo Ball shoes. Though a simplistic 90s art style is executed on the emblem, note that it doesn’t replicate any official team imagery, signaling some original PUMA artwork or a new icon that’ll officially debut down the line.
As mentioned towards the top, the PUMA MB.04 “Hugo The Hornet” drops on November 15th, retailing for $125.
Elsewhere in the basketball shoes world, the adidas AE 1 Low “Iron Sharpens Iron” releases on November 29th.
